We will teach the components of team-based learning (TBL) exercises by allowing participants to complete a classic and modified TBL. Afterwards, we will assist attendees in creating their own TBL using provided, learner responsible content as a base. We will then discuss curriculum development using Kern’s educational model, and best practices regarding the evaluation of education programs and curricula. We will then explore high- and low-fidelity simulation, homemade models, and debriefing techniques. Learners will then participate in audience response systems (ARS) while learning about ways to utilize ARS for adult learners and receiving hands-on training on how to use various free ARS. We will review ACGME requirements for individualized interactive instruction and possibilities for asynchronous learning as well as Learning Management Systems. Learners will be exposed to a variety of slide designs that can be used for various types of lectures and concepts through a competitive “slide off” by two slide design experts showcasing various methods of presenting information using presentation software.
This will be followed by a discussion of the techniques and tips on slide design with hands-on learning so that attendees can create engaging, effective lecture slides with rich, meaningful use of graphics, text, and animation. We will then provide an overview of the flipped curriculum as well as training on multimedia education principles and how to easily create podcast lectures.
This will include a hands-on workshop teaching screencasting software, which will cover recording, editing audio/video, inserting outside multimedia, as well as transition tools to make educational podcasts look polished and professional.
